RSE Statement

Yesterday I resigned as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Wales Office where I have been pleased to be a part of the team, since July 2022.

This came after a discussion over my reservations about a vote (on a piece of education legislation in Northern Ireland) with the Northern Ireland Minister and the Whips.

It's not a decision I reached lightly but as it is being reported, I wanted you to see my full statement here:

"Parents across the UK are becoming more concerned about the Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) that their children are being taught in schools.

"I share those concerns and I have been been contacted by parents in Aberconwy worried by what is happening in Wales.

"I am pleased the UK Government has responded quickly with a review of RSE in England and I would urge the Welsh Government in Cardiff to do the same and listen to what parents in Wales are saying.

"But I could not in good conscience represent parents and at the same time ignore the conclusion of the House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee: that more time was needed to consult with parents in Northern Ireland before enacting this Statutory Instrument."
