A popular Conwy pub has won Best All-Round Pub in Aberconwy MP Robin Millar’s Pub of the Year 2023 competition.
The Albion Ale House received hundreds of votes from pub lovers from throughout Aberconwy. Many spared the time to explain why the pub deserves the accolade, with the pub’s range of real ales and welcoming atmosphere being highlighted.
The runners up in the Best All-Round Pub category were Y Clwb in Glan Conwy coming second and Conwy’s The Mulberry coming third.
Following the close of voting and the announcement of the winners, last week Robin met with Gez Hughes, Licensee of the Albion, to congratulate him and to present him with a certificate.
Following the meeting, Robin said:
“Pubs make a crucial contribution in strengthening our communities and this is reflected in the popularity of the Aberconwy Best Pub competition. Over 800 people from throughout the constituency took the time to vote for their favourites and 48 received nominations. It shows just how important our pubs are to us.
“I’d like to congratulate Gez and Helena Hughes and their entire team at the Albion for winning the Best All-Round Pub category. It was a pleasure to meet with Gez and with just some of the regulars – it isn’t difficult to see why the Albion is so popular with pub and beer lovers.
“The Albion also recently won CAMRA’s prestigious regional Pub of the Year competition and has now gone on to compete for the title of North Wales Pub of the Year. I’d like to wish them every success in that competition and I’m looking forward to returning for a celebratory pint.”
Continuing, he said:
“I’ve been visiting pubs throughout Aberconwy to speak with licensees and last month I hosted a roundtable discussion with local pub owners and managers. I understand the challenges that pubs are facing in relation to soaring energy costs. Last week I launched a campaign in Parliament, in partnership with UKHospitality, to secure common sense energy contracts for businesses and I will continue to do all that I can to support our cherished local pubs.”

Best All-Round Pub: The Albion, Conwy
Best Community Supporting Pub: The Irish Bar, Llandudno
Best Food and Drink Pub: The Groes Inn

Tafarn yr Albion yng Nghonwy yn fuddugol yng Nghystadleuaeth Tafarn y Flwyddyn a drefnwyd gan yr Aelod Seneddol
Mae tafarn boblogaidd yng Nghonwy wedi ennill y Dafarn Orau yn Gyffredinol yng Nghystadleuaeth Tafarn y Flwyddyn 2023 a drefnwyd gan Robin Millar, AS Aberconwy.
Cafodd Tafarn yr Albion gannoedd o bleidleisiau gan bobl o bob rhan o Aberconwy sy’n frwd dros dafarnau. Roedd llawer o bobl wedi rhoi o’u hamser i esbonio pam fod y dafarn yn haeddu’r wobr hon, a thynnu sylw at amrywiaeth o gwrw gwych ac awyrgylch croesawgar y dafarn.
Y Clwb yng Nglan Conwy a ddaeth yn ail yn y categori Tafarn Orau yn Gyffredinol, a’r Mulberry yn cael y trydydd safle.
Ar ôl i’r bleidlais ddod i ben a chyhoeddi’r enillwyr, aeth Robin i gwrdd â Gez Hughes, Trwyddedai’r Albion, i’w longyfarch ac i gyflwyno tystysgrif iddo.
Ar ôl y cyfarfod, dywedodd Robin:
“Mae tafarndai’n cyfrannu’n sylweddol at gryfhau ein cymunedau ac mae hyn yn cael ei adlewyrchu ym mhoblogrwydd cystadleuaeth Tafarn Orau Aberconwy. Roedd 800 a mwy o bobl o bob rhan o’r etholaeth wedi rhoi o’u hamser i bleidleisio dros eu tafarn orau, ac roedd 48 o dafarndai wedi cael eu henwebu. Dyma ddangos pa mor bwysig i bawb yw ein tafarndai.
“Hoffwn longyfarch Gez a Helena Hughes a’r tîm cyfan yn yr Albion am ennill y categori Tafarn Orau yn Gyffredinol. Roedd hi’n bleser cael cwrdd â Gez a rhai o’r cwsmeriaid rheolaidd – mae’n amlwg pam mae’r Albion mor boblogaidd ymysg y rhai sy’n frwd dros dafarndai a chwrw.
“Yn ddiweddar, enillodd yr Albion Dafarn y Flwyddyn yn y rhanbarth yng nghystadleuaeth nodedig CAMRA, ac erbyn hyn mae’r dafarn wedi mynd ymlaen i gystadlu am deitl Tafarn y Flwyddyn Gogledd Cymru. Hoffwn ddymuno pob llwyddiant iddyn nhw yn y gystadleuaeth honno ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen at ddychwelyd am beint i ddathlu.”
Ychwanegodd Robin:
“Rydw i wedi bod yn ymweld â thafarndai ar hyd a lled Aberconwy i gael sgwrs gyda thrwyddedeion, a fis diwethaf fe wnes i gynnal trafodaeth bord gron gyda pherchnogion a rheolwyr tafarndai lleol. Rydw i’n deall yr heriau sy’n wynebu tafarndai o ran costau ynni cynyddol. Yr wythnos diwethaf, fe wnes i lansio ymgyrch yn y Senedd, mewn partneriaeth â UKHospitality, er mwyn sicrhau contractau ynni synnwyr cyffredin i fusnesau a byddaf yn parhau i wneud popeth o fewn fy ngallu i gefnogi ein tafarndai lleol.”
