Aberconwy MP Robin Millar has welcomed the awarding of National Lottery Community Fund grants to local community groups. Since 2018, £4.1 million has been distributed to good causes throughout Aberconwy with £535,939 being awarded since April this year.
Thanks to funding provided by National Lottery players, the Fund has been able to support multiple grassroots projects, whilst also making larger awards to organisation tackling pressing social issues, such as improving mental health and reducing homelessness. Most of the funding is to small community-based organisations, with over 80% of the grants being £10,000 or less.
Following successful applications, community groups that have been awarded funding include Cyfeillion Llyfrgell Gymunedol in Llanfairfechan, who have been awarded £10,000, Conwy Monkeys Climbing Club, who have received £8,000, and Conwy Connect for Learning Disabilities, who have secured a grant for £10,000. In addition, Aberconwy Domestic Abuse Service has been awarded £99,991 and Crest Co-operative, which helps disadvantaged people into training and employment, has successfully secured £407,948 in funding.
Commenting on these successful applications, Robin said:
“Huge amounts of work go into preparing these applications and I would like to congratulate the groups that have been successful in securing grants for their success. I pay tribute to them, and to community groups throughout Aberconwy, for the invaluable contribution they make to the communities they serve.
“In April I welcomed over 30 community and volunteer groups to a National Lottery funding workshop in Conwy that I hosted with the National Lottery Fund. This was an opportunity for groups from throughout Aberconwy to learn more about what grants the Fund has that could help to make their ideas and plans a reality.”
Continuing, Robin said:
“Whether it was fixing a leaky roof, new uniforms or getting together to transform a street – everyone there was trying to do their bit and find out how to access the funding they needed. And I see it as my job to try and help people do the things they are working on for their community. If you feel I could assist your community group in securing National Lottery funding, then please do not hesitate to contact me at robin.millar.mp@parliament.uk”
Concluding, he said:
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to share a National Lottery initiative that could be helpful for family budgets over the summer holiday season.
“This summer National Lottery players can claim a £25 voucher to use at one of hundreds of VisitBritain Shop attractions and experiences througout the UK - just visit NationalLotteryDaysOut.com to find out more about this offer and to and enter your game ref number.”
