Robin has welcomed his Private Members’ Bill, the Veterans Advisory and Pensions Committees Bill, receiving strong cross-party support and passing its Committee Stage in Parliament today.
Following the Committee Stage meeting this morning, Robin said:
“I am delighted that my Bill to further support veterans will now progress to its Third Reading.
“At a time when politics seems so polarised it is heartening that there is a real sense of unity in ensuring that we care for those who have given so much to protect us, and I am grateful for the cross-party support that my Bill has received.
“Since being elected as the MP for Aberconwy it has been a privilege to participate in the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. The scheme has given me, and many other MPs, an invaluable insight into military life and experiences that have allowed me to make more informed contributions to defence policy. Over two thirds of the MPs present this morning are members of the scheme – a powerful reflection of its importance in supporting former and serving members of our Armed Forces.”
Continuing, Robin said:
“This Government is determined to make the United Kingdom the best place in the world to be a veteran and I am proud that this Bill will help to realise this vision. It facilities the provision of more support to more veterans and it gives Ministers the flexibility to adapt support that is available to veterans as circumstances change.”
Robin concluded by saying:
“Conwy has the highest proportion of veterans of any county in Wales. It has been a real privilege to meet and listen to veterans across Aberconwy and I’ve been inspired by the work of local charities and community groups such as Military Minds FC and Llandudno’s Troop Café who do much to support them.
“I am hosting a local veterans' meeting on 18th March and I am looking forward to discussing ways in which I can help to support the men and women who have given so much to protect us.”
Robin yn croesawu ei Fil Pwyllgorau Cynghori a Phensiynau Cyn-filwyr yn cyrraedd carreg filltir allweddol yn y Senedd
Mae Robin wedi croesawu ei Fil Aelod Preifat, sef Bil Pwyllgorau Cynghori a Phensiynau Cyn-filwyr, sydd wedi cael cefnogaeth drawsbleidiol gref ac wedi pasio’r Cam Pwyllgor heddiw yn y Senedd.
Yn dilyn cyfarfod y Pwyllgor bore ’ma, dywedodd Robin:
“Rwy’n falch iawn bydd fy mil i roi cefnogaeth bellach i gyn-filwyr nawr yn symud ymlaen i’r Trydydd Darlleniad.
“Ar adeg pan mae’n ymddangos bod hollt mewn gwleidyddiaeth, mae’n galonogol bod ymdeimlad gwirioneddol o undod wrth sicrhau ein bod ni’n gofalu am y rheini sydd wedi rhoi cymaint i’n hamddiffyn ni. Rwy’n ddiolchgar am y gefnogaeth drawsbleidiol mae fy Mil wedi’i chael.
“Ers cael fy ethol yn Aelod Seneddol dros Aberconwy, mae wedi bod yn fraint ac yn anrhydedd cymryd rhan yng Nghynllun Seneddol y Lluoedd Arfog. Mae’r cynllun wedi rhoi cipolwg amhrisiadwy i mi - a llawer o Aelodau Seneddol eraill - ar brofiadau a bywyd milwrol. Mae hyn wedi fy ngalluogi i gyfrannu’n fwy gwybodus at y polisi amddiffyn. Mae dros dwy ran o dair o’r Aelodau Seneddol sy’n bresennol bore ’ma yn aelodau o’r cynllun hwn – sy’n adlewyrchiad grymus o’i bwysigrwydd o ran cefnogi aelodau sy’n gwasanaethu a chyn-aelodau o’n Lluoedd Arfog.”
Aeth Robin ymlaen i ddweud:
“Mae’r Llywodraeth hon yn benderfynol o wneud y Deyrnas Unedig y lle gorau yn y byd i fod yn gyn-filwr, ac rwy’n falch bydd y Bil hwn yn helpu i wireddu’r weledigaeth hon. Mae’n darparu mwy o gymorth i fwy o gyn-filwyr ac mae’n rhoi’r hyblygrwydd i Weinidogion addasu’r cymorth sydd ar gael i gyn-filwyr wrth i amgylchiadau newid.”
Gorffennodd Robin drwy ddweud:
“Conwy sydd â'r ganran uchaf o gyn-filwyr o holl siroedd Cymru. “Mae wedi bod yn fraint cael cwrdd â chyn-filwyr a gwrando arnyn nhw ledled Aberconwy. Rwyf hefyd wedi cael fy ysbrydoli gan waith elusennau lleol a grwpiau cymunedol fel Military Minds FC a Chaffi Troop Llandudno sy’n gwneud llawer i’w cefnogi nhw.
“Rwy’n cynnal cyfarfod lleol i gyn-filwyr ar 18 Mawrth ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen at drafod ffyrdd o helpu i gefnogi’r dynion a’r menywod sydd wedi rhoi cymaint i’n diogelu ni.”
