Aberconwy MP Robin Millar has welcomed yesterday’s announcement that 36 public buildings throughout Aberconwy have been connected to lightning-fast full fibre broadband under a UK Government drive to level up public services and speed up rollout.
Commenting on the announcement, Robin said:
“A fast and reliable broadband connection is now a vital utility. Without it, residents struggle to work from home, schoolchildren and students will struggle to study at home and businesses struggle to compete. Companies will also think twice about investing in Aberconwy if adequate digital infrastructure is not in place.
“There are still too many areas across Aberconwy that have unacceptably slow internet speeds and I am determined that all residents and businesses will be able to access a fast and stable internet connection. I lobbied the UK Government extensively for this investment into our local digital infrastructure and I am delighted that these buildings have now been connected.”
Continuing, Robin said:
“The connections will also incentivise commercial broadband providers to deliver upgrades to surrounding homes and businesses in Aberconwy by allowing them to extend the government-funded gigabit network. This is significantly cheaper and quicker than having to build it from scratch.”
Robin finished by saying:
“Of course, there is still much to be done. The UK Government’s £5 billion Project Gigabit will bring faster broadband to tens and thousands of homes and businesses throughout Wales and the UK and I will continue to be relentless in working with the Government and broadband providers to ensure that as many homes and businesses as possible, in even the hardest to reach communities, receive the fast and reliable connections that they need and deserve.”
More than 600 hospitals, police stations, libraries and other public buildings in Wales have been connected to lightning-fast full fibre broadband under a UK Government drive to level up public services and speed up rollout. It marks the completion of the largest public sector broadband project in Wales delivered by the UK government as part of it is levelling up strategy across the whole of the UK - making a tangible difference to the lives of families, people and communities across Wales.
The 36 buildings connected throughout Aberconwy comprise of 5 sites in Conwy, 3 in Llanfairfechan, 1 in Penmaenmawr, 5 in Betws y Coed, 14 in Llandudno, 6 in Llanrwst and 2 in Trefriw.
AS yn sicrhau cysylltiadau band eang ffeibr llawn ar gyfer 36 o safleoedd yn Aberconwy
Mae Robin Millar, Aelod Seneddol Aberconwy, wedi croesawu’r cyhoeddiad ddoe bod 36 o adeiladau cyhoeddus yn Aberconwy wedi cael eu cysylltu â band eang ffeibr llawn cyflym iawn o ganlyniad i ymgyrch gan Lywodraeth y DU i wella gwasanaethau cyhoeddus, a chyflymu’r broses cyflwyno.
Wrth siarad am y cyhoeddiad, dywedodd Robin:
“Mae cysylltiad band eang cyflym a dibynadwy nawr yn gyfleuster hanfodol. Hebddo, mae trigolion yn ei chael yn anodd gweithio gartref, bydd plant ysgol a myfyrwyr yn ei chael yn anodd astudio gartref, ac mae busnesau’n ei chael yn anodd cystadlu. Bydd cwmnïau hefyd yn meddwl ddwywaith am fuddsoddi yn Aberconwy os nad oes seilwaith digidol digonol yn ei le.
“Mae gormod o ardaloedd o hyd ar draws Aberconwy sydd â chyflymder rhyngrwyd annerbyniol o araf ac rwy’n benderfynol y bydd pob preswylydd a busnes yn gallu cael cysylltiad rhyngrwyd cyflym a sefydlog. Fe wnes i lobïo Llywodraeth y DU yn helaeth i gael y buddsoddiad hwn yn ein seilwaith digidol lleol ,ac rydw i wrth fy modd bod yr adeiladau hyn bellach wedi cael cysylltiad band eang cyflym.”
Aeth Robin ymlaen i ddweud:
“Bydd y cysylltiadau hefyd yn cymell darparwyr band eang masnachol i uwchraddio cartrefi a busnesau cyfagos yn Aberconwy drwy ganiatáu iddyn nhw ymestyn y rhwydwaith gigadid sy’n cael ei ariannu gan y llywodraeth. Mae hyn yn rhatach ac yn gyflymach o lawer na gorfod ei adeiladu o’r dechrau.”
Gorffennodd Robin drwy ddweud:
Wrth gwrs, mae llawer o waith i'w wneud eto. Bydd Prosiect Gigadid Llywodraeth y DU, sy’n werth £5 biliwn, yn dod â band eang cyflymach i ddegau a miloedd o gartrefi a busnesau ledled Cymru a’r DU a byddaf yn parhau i weithio’n ddiflino gyda’r Llywodraeth a darparwyr band eang i sicrhau bod cynifer o gartrefi a busnesau â phosibl, yn y cymunedau anoddaf eu cyrraedd, yn cael y cysylltiadau cyflym a dibynadwy sydd arnyn nhw’u hangen ac maen nhw’n eu haeddu.”
Mae mwy na 600 o ysbytai, gorsafoedd yr heddlu, llyfrgelloedd ac adeiladau cyhoeddus eraill yng Nghymru wedi cael eu cysylltu â band eang ffeibr llawn cyflym iawn o ganlyniad i ymgyrch gan Lywodraeth y DU i wella gwasanaethau cyhoeddus, a chyflymu’r broses cyflwyno. Dyma ddiwedd ar y prosiect band eang sector cyhoeddus mwyaf yng Nghymru, sy’n cael ei ddarparu gan Lywodraeth y DU fel rhan o strategaeth codi’r gwastad ar draws y DU – gan wneud gwahaniaeth pendant i fywydau teuluoedd, pobl a chymunedau ledled Cymru.
Mae’r 36 o adeiladau sydd wedi cael cysylltiad yn Aberconwy yn cynnwys 5 safle yng Nghonwy, 3 yn Llanfairfechan, 1 ym Mhenmaenmawr, 5 ym Metws y Coed, 14 yn Llandudno, 6 yn Llanrwst a 2 yn Nhrefriw.
