Aberconwy MP Robin Millar has welcomed the installation of Llandudno Rotary Club’s new President, Tristan Owen.
On Tuesday, 27th June, 23 Rotarians and friends dined at the Maesdu Golf Club before hearing from incoming President Tris Owen about his plans for the Club for the Rotary year to 30th June 2024. Tris is Llandudno Rotary Club’s youngest President ever, at 34, and he struck a poignant note as he began by asking all present to observe a moment’s silence for Alan Guinn, our outgoing President. Alan’s death last month was a shock to the entire community.
Tristan runs the Funeral Director Business Tom Owen and Son, having taken over from his father, Scott. He is proud to be the 4th generation of the Owen family to look after this family business and to continue serving the community as a Funeral Director.
He is a keen member of Rotary, enjoys walking and training the family dog, and spending time with friends. He’s also been known to frequent Maesdu golf course. Tris enjoys being involved in the local community and giving back to the place he’s grown-up in.
Welcoming Tristan’s installation as President, Robin said:
“Congratulations to Tristan on his installation as the President of the Rotary Club of Llandudno. Tris is a well-known local businessman and his family business has been vitally important to the community over many years.
“I’m enormously proud to be an honorary member of the Llandudno Rotary Club which forms part of Rotary International - a global network of service volunteers. It is the world’s largest service organisation, and welcomes as members all who seek to advance humanity.”
Continuing, he said:
“Through its support of popular events such as the annual Llandudno Fireworks Display and through its work in helping to build the potential of Llandudno’s young people, Llandudno Rotary continues to make an invaluable contribution to the town. You can learn more about their work, and about how to join, at llandudnorotary.org “
Concluding, Robin said:
“I’d like to pay tribute to Alan Guinn who passed away in May. Alan joined Rotary in 2005. He served as President in 2009/10 and again in 2015/16. It is a testament to Alan‘s embodiment of the Rotary moto “Service Above Self” that he agreed to be President for a third time in 2022, despite his poor health.
“Alan is a past Llandudno Town Councillor and Mayor and many will also know Alan through his football and wider sporting connections. Alan played for Manchester City as a young man and retained his interest and involvement in the game.”
