You may have noticed that I have been rather quiet over the last week or so! As ever, I have been busy during the prorogation of Parliament – out on the campaign trail and also continuing to respond to your enquiries and act on the issues that you bring to me.
Of course, I must start by offering my congratulations to Janet Finch Saunders on being elected for the third time as the Assembly Member for Aberconwy with an increased majority. It is a much deserved result; Janet works tirelessly, with great passion and energy for this part of the world. Janet and I work very well together, and I look forward to continuing that strong relationship.
Also congratulations to Sam Rowlands, the Leader of Conwy County Borough Council on also being elected to the Senedd along with Mark Isherwood and Darren Millar for Clwyd West. I know that they will be (and continue to be) dedicated, hard-working representatives for us all.
Finally, a huge thanks to all those who have put the care and effort into making the voting and elections possible in these difficult times. It was a challenging task.
The term “prorogation” is the ending of the term of parliament. The first term of parliament ended before the bank holiday and what a first term it has been. We have passed bills ranging from leaving Europe to £900bn worth of trade deals; Domestic Abuse to Animal Sentencing and more. We also introduced the UK Internal Markets Act "possibly the most important piece of legislation in this Parliament". The process of a bill becoming law is an interesting process, but there is not enough space this week. I will return to it in a later article.
Next week our next term starts again with the Queen's Speech. Another of the traditions of Parliament. I'll be there to witness events (it is covid restricted so we had to enter a ballot for one of the limited number of spaces - I won!) I shall be watching from the Queen’s Gallery and I'll be sure to report back from behind the scenes and I'm sure it'll all be live on TV as well.
In the meantime, if you have any questions on legislation, any concerns that you want to share with me or a problem you think I can help with, please do not hesitate to call my office on 01492 583094 - or if you just want to share an opinion; we can’t always agree agreed on everything but I have always been interested to hear what people say and will listen carefully to the arguments.
Facebook live will resume on Wednesday evening at 7pm for the next session of Parliament. It’s a great place to chat!
Efallai eich bod wedi sylwi fy mod wedi bod braidd yn dawel dros yr wythnos ddiwethaf! Ond dwi wedi cadw’n brysur yn ystod cyfnod gohirio’r Senedd – allan yn ymgyrchu yn ogystal â pharhau i ymateb i’ch ymholiadau a gweithredu ar y materion a godwch gyda fi.
Wrth gwrs, rhaid imi ddechrau drwy longyfarch Janet Finch Saunders am gael ei hethol am y trydydd tro yn Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy gyda mwy o fwyafrif. Mae hi’n llawn haeddu’r rôl; mae Janet yn gweithio’n ddiflino, gydag angerdd ac egni di-ben-draw dros y rhan hon o’r byd. Mae Janet a finnau’n cydweithio’n dda iawn, ac edrychaf ymlaen at barhau’r berthynas gref honno.
Llongyfarchiadau hefyd i Sam Rowlands, Arweinydd Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy, ar gael ei ethol i’r Senedd ynghyd â Mark Isherwood a Darren Millar dros Orllewin Clwyd. Gwn fod pob un ohonynt yn gynrychiolwyr ymroddedig a gweithgar.
Yn olaf, diolch o galon i bawb sydd wedi ymdrechu mor galed i alluogi cynnal yr etholiadau yn ystod y cyfnod anodd hwn. Roedd yn dasg eithriadol.
Daeth tymor cyntaf y Senedd i ben cyn gŵyl y banc, cyn y cyfnod gohirio, ac roedd hi’n dipyn o dymor a dweud y lleiaf. Rydym wedi pasio biliau Cam-Drin Domestig, Lles Anifeiliaid, trefniadau i adael Ewrop, cytundebau masnach gwerth £900bn a llawer mwy. Roeddem hefyd wedi cyflwyno Deddf Marchnadoedd Mewnol y DU sef “y darn pwysicaf o ddeddfwriaeth yn y Senedd hon o bosibl”. Mae’r daith o gyflwyno bil i greu deddfwriaeth yn broses ddiddorol, ond does dim digon o le i drafod hynny yr wythnos hon. Dof yn ôl at hyn rywbryd eto.
Bydd ein tymor nesaf yn dechrau eto wythnos nesaf gydag Araith y Frenhines - un arall o draddodiadau’r Senedd. Rwy’n falch o ddweud y bydda i’n cael bod yno yn y cnawd (cafodd fy enw ei dynnu allan o het ar gyfer y nifer cyfyngedig o seddi sydd ar gael oherwydd cyfyngiadau covid). Byddaf yn gwylio o Oriel y Frenhines ac yn siŵr o adrodd yn ôl ar yr hyn ddigwyddodd y tu ôl i’r llenni. Bydd y cyfan yn cael ei ddarlledu’n fyw ar deledu hefyd mae’n siŵr.
Yn y cyfamser, os oes gennych chi unrhyw gwestiynau am ddeddfwriaeth, unrhyw bryderon rydych chi eisiau eu rhannu â mi neu broblem rydych chi’n meddwl y gallaf helpu â hi, mae croeso i chi ffonio fy swyddfa ar 01492 583094. Neu mae croeso i chi rannu eich barn â fi; allwn ni ddim cytuno ar bopeth bob amser ond mae gen i ddiddordeb mewn clywed safbwyntiau pobl a dwi’n addo gwrando’n astud ar y dadleuon.
Bydd Facebook Live yn ailgychwyn nos Fercher am 7 pm ar gyfer sesiwn nesaf y Senedd. Mae hwnnw’n gyfle gwych i sgwrsio!
