On Tuesday I was pleased to attend Cats Protection’s virtual event to discuss the urgent need for compulsory microchipping of pet cats. It is devastating when a beloved pet goes missing – but a chipped cat has a much better chance of finding its way home and being reunited.
Microchipping is the safe and permanent way to identify an owned cat, so I was delighted to support this campaign for compulsory microchipping of pet cats.
With over 2.6 million unchipped cats across the UK, charities like @CatsProtection have to rehome thousands of cats each year who can’t be identified. By making microchipping compulsory for cats they can get more cats home.
There is financial support available for neutering and microchipping. For those on low incomes, Cats Protection offers reduced cost or free neutering across the country and in many areas, reduced cost microchipping is also available.
