Robin has welcomed confirmation in Parliament that a business case is underway for the electrification of the North Wales Main Line.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday Robin asked the Railway Minister, Huw Merriman MP:
“The UK Connectivity Review highlighted the importance of the north Wales Main Line not only to the economy of north Wales, but to the interconnectedness of all parts of the Union. Will the Minister confirm that work on a business case for the electrification of the north Wales Main Line is continuing and that the delivery plans for its electrification remain part of the Department’s (for Transport) plans?”
Responding, the Railway Minster said:
“We are looking to publish the Enhancements Pipeline in the months to come. It will detail the future projects off HS2, which will include bids from projects in Wales and in England, not least the one to which my Honourable Friend refers.”
Commenting after the debate, Robin said:
“In November I secured an important debate in Parliament calling for the prioritisation of investment into the North Wales Main Line. During that debate I highlighted how electrification of this vital route will contribute to decarbonising our economy, will strengthen the North Wales economy and connections within the UK.
“I am pleased that the electrification of the North Wales Main Line is at the heart of the Government’s agenda, as confirmed in Parliament today. Naturally I am concerned about any delay related to HS2, but I am pleased that the government has confirmed it has not lost sight of the importance of electrifying the North Wales mainline.
“I will continue to press these points with the Minister - starting with my meeting with him next week.”
