Residents, businesses and communities throughout Aberconwy are to benefit from £18.6 million towards the development of an Active Travel route through Dyffryn Conwy from Llandudno Junction to Betws-y-Coed.
The investment for key projects in the scheme has been secured from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund. On Friday Aberconwy MP Robin Millar welcomed stakeholders and residents to the launch of the scheme at Y Clwb in Glan Conwy.
Dozens of residents came along to learn more about the scheme, the three projects being funded, the timescale for completion and the benefits that they will deliver.
Many also took the opportunity ask practical questions about construction and environmental impact.
Following the launch, Robin said:
“The Aberconwy Our Plan was developed from the things you told me that matter to you. These included creating new opportunities, boosting the economy, investing in tourism and promoting stronger communities. This investment hits several of these and shows that your voice is being heard in the UK Government.
“I’m grateful to the representatives from Conwy Town and Glan Conwy Community Council, Conwy County Council, Network Rail and other stakeholders who attended today. I'd also like to reiterate my thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to develop the projects and this scheme.
“It was great to see so many residents at the launch to learn more about the benefits that the Môr i'r Mynydd Coast to Valley scheme will deliver.
"A link between Glan Conwy and Conwy through the RSPB reserve, avoiding the Black Cat roundabout is good news for workers and school students who live in Glan Conwy and need to travel to Conwy. Better connections along Dyffryn Conwy and replacement of the much-loved Sappers Bridge in Betws-y-Coed will allow visitors to access the natural beauty of the valley in an environmentally friendly way. It also includes vital flood resilience works around Trefriw.
"The projects have attracted significant interest and enthusiasm locally and this was reflected in the strong attendance of the launch.
"I'm very grateful to Conwy County Council engineers for their hard work and I'll be working closely with them to try and deliver these projects by March 2026.
“I must also thank Dan and Mandy and the team at Y Clwb for making us all so welcome. Y Clwb was runner up in three of the categories of my Aberconwy’s Best Pubs 2023 including in the Best Pub Garden and Best Community Supporting Pub. With their spectacular view over the Conwy River and the welcome they gave us it isn’t difficult to see why so many of their regulars voted for them!"
Local resident Christine Cumberbatch said:
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the Coast to Valley project and to speak with the people who are behind making it happen. This event has been very informative and enjoyable and I’m looking forward to the plans become a reality.”
Charlotte Harries, Network Rail’s Public Affairs Manager for Wales and Borders, said:
“Network Rail is pleased to be supporting Conwy Council and Robin Millar MP in their delivery of this £18.6 million Levelling-Up Funded project. Active Travel is key to connecting communities and this project will allow passengers to more easily access all that the Conwy Valley has to offer.”
Robin Millar AS yn lansio cynllun Teithio Llesol Môr i'r Mynydd yn Aberconwy, sy’n werth £18.6 miliwn
Bydd trigolion, busnesau a chymunedau ledled Aberconwy yn elwa o £18.6 miliwn sydd wedi ei neilltuo i ddatblygu llwybr Teithio Llesol drwy Ddyffryn Conwy o Gyffordd Llandudno i Fetws-y-coed.
Sicrhawyd y cyllid ar gyfer prosiectau allweddol y cynllun drwy Gronfa Ffyniant Bro Llywodraeth y DU. Ddydd Gwener, rhoddodd Robin Millar, AS Aberconwy, groeso i randdeiliaid a thrigolion lleol i lansiad y cynllun yn Y Clwb yng Nglan Conwy.
Daeth dwsinau o breswylwyr draw i ddysgu mwy am y cynllun, y tri phrosiect allweddol, yr amserlen ar gyfer cwblhau'r gwaith, a sut bydd y cynllun hwn o fudd i’r ardal leol.
Manteisiodd llawer hefyd ar y cyfle i ofyn cwestiynau am y gwaith adeiladu a’i effaith amgylcheddol.
Yn dilyn y lansiad, dywedodd Robin:
“Datblygwyd Cynllun Aberconwy yn seiliedig ar y pethau y dywedoch chi wrthyf sy’n bwysig i chi. Roedd y rhain yn cynnwys creu cyfleoedd newydd, rhoi hwb i’r economi, buddsoddi mewn twristiaeth, a hyrwyddo cymunedau cryfach. Mae’r buddsoddiad hwn yn cyflawni sawl un o’r rhain ac mae’n dangos bod eich llais yn cael ei glywed yn Llywodraeth y DU.
“Rydw i’n ddiolchgar i gynrychiolwyr Cyngor Tref Conwy a Chyngor Cymunedol Glan Conwy, i Gyngor Sir Conwy, i Network Rail ac i randdeiliaid eraill a oedd yn bresennol heddiw. Hoffwn ddiolch hefyd i bawb sydd wedi gweithio mor galed i ddatblygu’r prosiectau a’r cynllun hwn.
“Roedd hi’n wych gweld cynifer o drigolion yn y lansiad yn dysgu mwy am y buddion y bydd cynllun Môr i’r Mynydd yn eu cynnig.
“Mae cael cysylltiad rhwng Glan Conwy a Chonwy drwy warchodfa’r RSPB, gan osgoi cylchfan Black Cat, yn newyddion da i weithwyr a phlant ysgol sy’n byw yng Nglan Conwy ac sydd angen teithio i Gonwy. Bydd cael gwell cysylltiadau ar draws Dyffryn Conwy, ochr yn ochr â disodli Pont y Soldiwr ym Metws-y-coed, yn caniatáu i ymwelwyr gael mynediad at harddwch naturiol y dyffryn mewn ffordd sy’n gyfeillgar i’r amgylchedd. Mae’r prosiectau hefyd yn cynnwys cynnal gwaith hanfodol i wrthsefyll llifogydd yn Nhrefriw.
“Mae’r prosiectau wedi ennyn cryn ddiddordeb a brwdfrydedd yn lleol, ac adlewyrchwyd hyn yn nifer y bobl a oedd yn bresennol yn y lansiad.
“Rydw i’n ddiolchgar iawn i beirianwyr Cyngor Sir Conwy am eu gwaith caled, a byddaf yn gweithio’n agos gyda nhw i geisio cyflawni’r prosiectau hyn erbyn mis Mawrth 2026.
“Rhaid i mi hefyd ddiolch i Dan a Mandy a’r tîm yn Y Clwb am ein croesawu ni i gyd. Daeth Y Clwb yn ail mewn tri categori yng nghystadleuaeth Tafarndai Gorau Aberconwy 2023, gan gynnwys y categori ‘Y Dafarn â’r Ardd Gwrw Orau’ ac ‘Y Dafarn Orau am Gefnogi’r Gymuned’. Gyda’r golygfeydd godidog dros Afon Conwy, ynghyd â’r croeso cynnes a gawsom ni yno, mae’n amlwg pam fod cynifer o’u cwsmeriaid rheolaidd wedi pleidleisio drostyn nhw!”
Dywedodd Christine Cumberbatch, sy’n byw yn lleol:
“Rydw i’n ddiolchgar am gael y cyfle i ddysgu mwy am brosiect Môr i’r Mynydd, a chael siarad â’r bobl sy’n chwarae rhan yn y gwaith o’i wireddu. Mae’r digwyddiad hwn wedi rhoi llawer o wybodaeth a mwynhad, ac rydw i’n edrych ymlaen at weld y cynlluniau’n dod yn realiti.”
Dywedodd Charlotte Harries, Rheolwr Materion Cyhoeddus Network Rail ar gyfer Cymru a’r Gororau:
“Mae Network Rail yn falch o gefnogi Cyngor Conwy a Robin Millar AS i gyflawni’r prosiect sy’n cael ei ariannu gan y Gronfa Ffyniant Bro. “Mae teithio llesol yn chwarae rhan allweddol yn y gwaith o gysylltu cymunedau, a bydd y prosiect hwn yn galluogi teithwyr i gael mynediad haws at bopeth sydd gan Ddyffryn Conwy i’w gynnig.”
