From today, 7,000 households throughout Aberconwy, and millions of households throughout the UK, will start to receive a further £300 Cost of Living Payment.
Those eligible for the payment will receive the payment directly into their nominated bank accounts between 31st October and 19th November meaning those eligible do not need to apply or do anything to receive it. The payments are tax-free, do not contribute towards the benefit cap, and do not impact on existing benefits. A further payment is due to be made next spring, bringing the total to £900.
Commenting on this latest Cost of Living Payment Aberconwy MP Robin Millar said:
“I know how concerned so many Aberconwy residents are about rising costs and soaring energy prices.
“Last winter I held three “Worried about Winter” advice events throughout Aberconwy to help people access additional help and support with their households bills. I took their concerns to Ministers at every opportunity and I welcome this latest payment that will give a financial boost to more than eight million households throughout the UK, including thousands here in Aberconwy, as the UK Government continues to support the most vulnerable.”
Continuing, Robin said:
“I have been made aware of scammers trying to exploit vulnerable people and the Cost of Payment scheme and I want to highlight that people should be extremely careful of any texts and emails relating to Cost of Living payments.
“All payments are sent out automatically and directly to those eligible, and customers do not need to apply or contact the Government at any stage. If you have had a message asking you to apply, accept or contact someone about the payment, this might be a scam. Those who think they have been the victim of a scam should contact their bank immediately and report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040. Any passwords that have been leaked should also be changed immediately.”
Concluding, Robin said:
“I have set up a Cost of Living hub on my website at robin-millar.org.uk/support where you can access information about support that is available from charities, Conwy County Borough Council, Welsh Government and from the UK Government. I am holding advice and support surgeries throughout Aberconwy and you can find where my next surgery will be held by visiting my website. Please remember, if you feel that I can be of any help or assistance then please don’t hesitate to contact me office at robin.millar.mp@parliament.uk or by calling 01492 583 094.
