A UK Government Minister has visited Llandudno to learn more about the successes of the Department for Work and Pension’s Kickstart Scheme.
Local MP Robin Millar joined Minister for Pensions and Financial Inclusion, Guy Opperman MP, to visit Llandudno Jobcentre. They met the team and discussed the work that they are doing to help people back into work as the UK emerges from the pandemic.
Robin and the Minister then visited the Dunoon Hotel to meet Joshua, a Kickstart employee, to hear about his experiences with Kickstart Scheme since he started work in June.
The Kickstart Scheme allows youngsters on Universal Credit aged between 16-24 to be offered six-month work placements – with wages paid by the Government. The scheme was announced last July as part of the Chancellor’s Plan for Jobs.
Following the visit, Minister for Pensions Guy Opperman MP, said:
‘It has been extremely tough for young people throughout the pandemic. That’s why I was very pleased to see the impact the DWP’s Kickstart Scheme has had on getting young people, like Joshua, back into work across Llanduduo. With over 150,000 Kickstart placements already approved throughout the United Kingdom, it’s great to hear the positive impact on local communities Kickstart is having as we rebuild following the pandemic.’
Robin Millar, MP for Aberconwy said:
“Throughout the pandemic Job Centre teams across the UK have risen to unprecedented challenges and, as we recover from the devastating economic impacts of Covid-19, their work is more important than ever. I would like to take this opportunity to first and foremost thank the fantastic Job Centre team here in Llandudno for their tireless work in helping people back into work. I am looking forward to supporting and working with them in the months and years ahead.
During the pandemic the packages of financial support provided by the UK Government has been invaluable in protecting jobs and businesses here in Aberconwy. As we begin to emerge from economic devastation of Covid-19, and with job vacancies now at a record high, it is crucial that young people can obtain the experience that they need to enter the workplace and to begin successful careers. I warmly welcome the Kickstart Scheme and it was a pleasure to welcome the Minister to Llandudno and for him to see first-hand the enormously positive impact that the scheme is having.”
Gweinidog yn canmol yr ymdrech i Greu Gwaith yn Llandudno
Mae un o Weinidogion Llywodraeth y DU wedi ymweld â Llandudno i ddysgu mwy am lwyddiannau Cynllun Kickstart yr Adran Gwaith a Phensiynau.
Ymunodd Robin Millar, yr AS Lleol, â Guy Opperman AS, y Gweinidog Pensiynau a Chynhwysiant Ariannol, ar ymweliad â Chanolfan Waith Llandudno. Cawsant gyfle i gyfarfod â'r tîm a thrafod y gwaith y maen nhw’n ei wneud i helpu pobl i ddychwelyd i fyd gwaith wrth i'r DU ddod allan o'r pandemig.
Yna, ymwelodd Robin a’r Gweinidog â Gwesty Dunoon i gwrdd â Joshua, un o weithwyr Kickstart, i glywed am y profiadau y mae wedi’u cael drwy'r Cynllun Kickstart ers iddo ddechrau gweithio ym mis Mehefin.
Mae Cynllun Kickstart yn caniatáu i bobl ifanc rhwng 16 a 24 oed sy'n hawlio Credyd Cynhwysol gael cynnig lleoliadau gwaith am gyfnod o chwe mis, gyda'r Llywodraeth yn talu eu cyflogau. Cyhoeddwyd y cynllun fis Gorffennaf diwethaf fel rhan o Gynllun Swyddi'r Canghellor.
Yn dilyn yr ymweliad, dywedodd Guy Opperman AS, y Gweinidog dros Bensiynau:
‘Mae wedi bod yn gyfnod eithriadol o anodd i bobl ifanc gydol y pandemig. Dyna pam roeddwn i mor falch o weld yr effaith mae Cynllun Kickstart yr Adran Gwaith a Phensiynau wedi’i chael o ran cael pobl ifanc fel Joshua yn ôl i fyd gwaith ledled Llandudno. Mae dros 150,000 o leoliadau Kickstart wedi’u cymeradwyo eisoes ar hyd a lled y Deyrnas Unedig ac mae’n wych clywed am yr effaith gadarnhaol y mae Kickstart yn ei chael ar gymunedau lleol wrth i ni ailsefydlu yn sgil y pandemig.’
Dywedodd Robin Millar, AS Aberconwy:
“Drwy gydol y pandemig mae timau mewn Canolfannau Gwaith ledled y DU wedi ymateb i heriau na welwyd mo’u tebyg o'r blaen ac wrth i ni ddod dros effeithiau economaidd dinistriol Covid-19, mae eu gwaith yn bwysicach nag erioed o'r blaen. Hoffwn fanteisio ar y cyfle, yn gyntaf oll, i ddiolch i dîm gwych y Ganolfan Waith yma yn Llandudno am eu gwaith diflino yn helpu pobl i ddychwelyd i fyd gwaith. Rwyf yn edrych ymlaen at eu cefnogi a chydweithio â nhw yn y misoedd a’r blynyddoedd i ddod.
Yn ystod y pandemig, mae’r pecynnau cymorth ariannol y mae Llywodraeth y DU wedi’u darparu wedi bod yn amhrisiadwy o ran diogelu swyddi a busnesau yma yn Aberconwy. Wrth i ni ddechrau cael ein traed danom yn sgil dinistr economaidd Covid-19, ac wrth i’r swyddi sydd ar gael erbyn hyn gyrraedd y lefel uchaf erioed, mae’n hanfodol bod pobl ifanc yn gallu cael y profiad sydd ei angen arnynt i gael mynediad i'r gweithle a dechrau ar yrfa lwyddiannus. Rwyf yn croesawu'r Cynllun Kickstart ac roedd yn bleser croesawu'r Gweinidog i Landudno er mwyn iddo weld â’i lygaid ei hun yr effaith gadarnhaol y mae’r cynllun yn ei chael.”
